This weekend, Brad “the Brick” Crihfield introduced the Sweat Shop to Brick Spin, his latest high-powered workout.
Brick Spin is not just a spin class. It’s structured in two parts:
Spin Block – This is the spin part of the workout, delivering a quick HIIT (high intensity interval training) session that pushes your cardio to its limit and torches calories.
Kickboxing Block – The kickboxing sessions improve agility and balance while maintaining a high cardio output.
Brad switches the class between blocks, keeping the energy high and pushing everyone out of their comfort zones. But all this is normal for a Brick class. The real change is the heart rate monitor display, showing everyone’s heart rates during the course of the class.
At the beginning of the class, he hands out chest straps with the heart rate sensors that would send their data to the display. Each person in the class can see in real time where their heart rate is at, and adjust their intensity to stay in their target zone.
It also works as a little competitive push for those who like that extra excitement.
This class is a calorie-torcher, especially great after a high carb night (or just before weigh ins). And if you’re the kind of person who really needs to know what your heart rate is at any given second (the Sweat Shop has more than a few clients and trainers who are into that kind of thing), this class is a bonus for you. All you need is a pair of gloves and willingness to try something new.
